Course Overview

To ensure that food handlers continue to practise good hygiene, the refresher food hygiene training course for food handlers was launched in October 2010.

Food handlers should attend 1st refresher training by 5th year from the date of first passing the WSQ Food Safety Course Level 1. They should attend 2nd and subsequent refresher training, every 10th year from the date of passing the last refresher training.

Who Should Attend

Food handlers who handle and prepares food and beverages in retail and non-retail food establishments licensed by SFA • Learners should have prior knowledge in food safety Minimum Entry Requirement/ Pre-requisite • Participants should have the ability to speak, read and write in simple English/ Chinese/ Malay • WSQ Food Safety Course Level 1 Certificate (formerly known as Basic Food Hygiene Course certificate)

Course Content

  • The Assessment Only Pathway (AOP) is a training option offered by SSG which allows individuals to obtain WSQ qualification by only undergoing the assessment without attending training.
  • Acceptable documentation could include certificates, academic transcripts, training materials, courseware etc. that are related to food safety or food hygiene, reflecting that the individual has attended the course.

Assessment (1.5 hours)

  • Written assessment – Multiple-choice questions and short answer questions
  • Practical performance

Dress code

  • Wear covered shoes, long pants
  • Clean and trimmed fingernails
  • Tie up long hair

Learning Outcomes

Assessment & Certification

Statement of Attainment will be awarded for participants who are competent

Note: Learners will not receive training grants from SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) in the event they fail the assessment and have to re-take the same course again.
